“you were right. Options like extended licenses have value and we should be charging extra for them.”
Really, Christ, it took all those galleries deleted, all those contributors threatening to delete, and at the end we get a very quiet, ‘you were right’.
Was it worth fighting for? I don’t think so, all they can see now are dollar signs, they are not changing the usage licence agreement because they upset the contributors by infringing on their rights to their images, they are changing it because they realised they could make even more $$$.
“for subscriptions that do not conform to the standard Stockxpert subscription EULA, we agree that we should offer specific opt-outs for each non-conforming subscription.”
In other words, the above statement could also read, for outside web sites (affiliated with Jupiter Images) that have the same terms of use as Stockxpert, you will not have an opt out.
If they even showed an understanding of the importance of what we were telling them, I would feel better about the whole fiasco, but as with any other corporate mind, the thing that swung the deal was the dollar, not what is morally right or wrong. So believe me, they will try something like this again, and the next time they might not have an opportunity to make more money from it, so the contributors will get screwed over.
